Passports
Your passport should have at least six months’ validity from the date you return to the UK. Rules can vary by cruise line and port. Your passport must also be less than 10 years old on the day you enter the EU.
Visa and entry rules
Norway is part of the Schengen area. UK travellers can enter Schengen countries for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa. If your itinerary includes non-Schengen ports, check the entry rules for each country before travel.
EES and ETIAS
The EU Entry/Exit System records biometric details when travellers enter or leave the Schengen area. ETIAS is an electronic travel authorisation for short stays. Checks are usually completed once per trip when joining or ending your cruise in the EU.
Weather and seasons
Summer brings long daylight hours and lush scenery. Spring and autumn offer snow-dusted mountains and fewer crowds. Pack layers and a light waterproof for changeable conditions on deck and ashore.
Sailing options
Choose a convenient no-fly cruise from the UK or a fly-cruise from European ports. Some fjord ports use tenders and can be affected by local weather. The ship will provide updates if plans change.
Travel insurance
Select a policy that includes cruise cover for medical treatment, cancellation, repatriation and missed-port cover. Carry a valid GHIC for emergency healthcare in the EU (it does not replace full insurance).
Currency and payments
Norway uses the Norwegian krone. Credit cards are widely accepted. Tell your bank about your trip and keep small cash for cafés, local buses and public restrooms.
